187-Natural Gas Emergency Line

You must call the Natural Gas Emergency Line – 187 in case of any of the below:

 1. Odour of gas in the apartment,
2. Odour of gas in stairwells,
3. Odour of gas along the street,
4. Odour of gas around the curb box/pipelines,
5. Natural gas fire and explosion,
6. Carbon monoxide poisonings,
7. Absence of gas

 

When you call the Natural Gas Emergency Line – 187, remember to;

1. Clearly and calmly state the nature of your emergency, and not to panic.
2. State your name, last name, and phone number.
3. Clearly state or describe the nature of emergency.
4. Report the address (district, street, and building) of emergency clearly.
5. Preferably describe the emergency address based on a well-known nearby location.
6. Only dial 187 Emergency line in case of emergencies.
7. Avoid unnecessary conversations, do not keep the operator or the 187 Emergency Line busy.

Natural Gas Emergency 187 response teams are on duty 24/7, and will attend to the reported address as immediately as possible.

The Natural Gas Emergency 187 response teams will check the reported location for gas leaks, and if they detect leaks in the internal pipelines, they abide by the Natural Gas Market Distribution and Customer Services Legislation, Section Three (Provider Service Liabilities), Part Two (Emergency Response, Registration and Documentation), Article 61: “Emergency response services are provided free of charge. However, any repairs or alterations to the internal piping system following the emergency response is the responsibility of the customer”, and they cut off customer’s gas supply and direct them to companies certified by Başkentgaz.

 

WHEN YOU SMELL THE ODOUR OF GAS IN YOUR APARTMENT;

1. Do not panic and remain calm.
2. Open the doors and windows to ventilate the area.
3. Shut off meters and device valves.
4. Do not turn on or off, or unplug any electrical devices.
5. Don't turn any electrical switches on or off.
6. Do not use phones in the environment as it may cause electric sparks, and do not answer if your phone rings.
7. Do not smoke or ignite matches/lighters, or any other flames.
8. Call the Natural Gas Emergency Line 187 from a secure location free from the gas leak.
 

 

 

WHEN YOU SMELL THE ODOUR OF GAS INSIDE THE BUILDING, OR IN THE BOILER ROOM;

1. Do not panic and remain calm.
2. Turn off the main natural gas entrance valve of the building.
3. Open the building door and any windows facing open air to ventilate the area.
4. Don't turn any electrical switches on or off.
5. Do not use phones in the environment as it may cause electric sparks, and do not answer if your phone rings.
6. Avoid any actions that could create flames or sparks.
7. Do not smoke or ignite matches/lighters, or any other flames.
8. Warn the inhabitants of the building.
9. Do not operate lifts or other equipment in the common areas of the building.
10. Call the Natural Gas Emergency Line 187 from a secure location free from the gas leak.

 

WHEN YOU SMELL THE ODOUR OF GAS ALONG THE STREET;

1. Do not panic and remain calm.
2. Warn those around you who have not smelt the odour.
3. Close the windows and doors of buildings to prevent the gas from infiltrating inside, and warn people against it.
4. Do not use phones in the environment as it may cause electric sparks, and do not answer if your phone rings.
5. Do not smoke or ignite matches/lighters, or any other flames, and warn those who do.
6. Turn off the engines of automobiles and cut off traffic flow if possible to secure the area.
7. Call the Natural Gas Emergency Line 187 from a secure location free from the gas leak.

 

WHEN YOU NOTICE DAMAGE TO NATURAL GAS EQUIPMENT/PIPELINES

1. Do not panic and remain calm.
2. Do not use phones in the environment as it may cause electric sparks, and do not answer if your phone rings.
3. Avoid any actions that could create flames or sparks.
4. Do not smoke or ignite matches/lighters.
5. Make sure the traffic flow is cut off around the damage site, and secure the area.
6. Close the windows and doors of buildings to prevent the gas from infiltrating inside.
7. Call the Natural Gas Emergency Line 187 from a secure location free from the gas leak.
8. In case of excessive gas leak, make sure the electricity is cut off in the area.
9. Turn off the valves of your devices to prevent damage from the precautionary cut off and reintroduction of gas flow.
